The Crusader basketball program wrapped up its season with a brotherhood and family night. The evening included an inter-squad matchup, continued with a special thank you to the senior parents, and ended with a potluck meal.
We would like to thank all of the parents that have dedicated their time to our program and to this night!
After Mass, Bishop Raymond Chappetto, `65, witnessed the 1st semester academic successes of our Crusaders during the achievement assembly. In our Chapel, Mr. Diaz announced the young men who are honors recipients and those who have achieved an 85+ overall average for the semester. We are proud to announce that 84 out of 137 young men have achieved an 85+ overall average for the first semester.
The Academic Renewal Award is given to a student from each house, upper and lower, for his commitment to continued hard work and improvement over the course of the first semester.
We would like to congratulate senior, Ronan Walsh, from the upper house, and freshman, Andrew Chalmers, from the lower house, for receiving this award.
Below is the list of those young men, who have received honors this past semester:
“As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” ~Proverbs 27:17
Monday, November 14th, Father Fonti met with dads of our young Crusaders. The night began with adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and a conference on masculine spirituality in our Chapel. After feeding their souls, they had a pre-game meal before watching the Giants/Bengals Monday Night Football game.
Prior to celebrating All Saints’ Day Mass for our community, Bishop Raymond Chappetto, ’65, came home to tell his personal vocation story to the young men in the Pier Giorgio Frasatti Discernment group. In telling his unique story, Bishop said, “as I got to know my parish priests and saw all the good and helpful things that they did for the people in my neighborhood, I said, “I too want to be a priest””. Six years after he graduated Cathedral, Bishop Chappetto was ordained to the priesthood. Today, he is not only an esteemed alum; he is the liaison between the Diocese of Brooklyn and Cathedral Prep!
As the Crusader Cross Country season came to a close on Saturday, October 29th, our Crusaders ended their season on some high notes. Our varsity squad placed 5th in the Brooklyn/Queens Championship, our freshmen team placed 3rd in the Brooklyn/Queens Championship, and Daniel Berhan place 3rd overall in the Varsity Brooklyn/Queens Championship. With a solid foundation in our upper class-men and strong potential in our freshmen, the Crusaders look to crush the competition in the upcoming years.
CNN reports on alumnus, Frank Palombo, `73, who passed away on 9-11.
