On Graduation morning, Friday, May 25th, our community gathered with the proud parents and family of the Class of 2018 at the Prep to celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving. Our Rector-President, Father Joseph Fonti, ’84, was the main celebrant. Father Christopher Bethge, ’07, con-celebrated and Deacon Philip Franco, ’93, proclaimed the Gospel.

Friday evening, Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio presided over our Graduation Exercises at St. James Cathedral-Basilica in Brooklyn. Father Fonti welcomed the family and friends of the Class of 2018 and thanked the parents for entrusting Cathedral with their son’s intellectual and spiritual formation. He reminded his spiritual sons that “they can do all things in Christ who strengthens them.”

Adam Zajkowski gave the Salutatorian Address and Sebastian Rosas was chosen as the class Valedictorian. Both noted the unique bond that comes with the Cathedral brotherhood and the challenges that they and their classmates were able to overcome together.

Liz Faublas, Anchor of Currents News, was the commencement speaker. Ms. Faublas spoke about the unique role that women play in the Catholic Church. She noted the class’s unique diversity and urged our graduates to be true men for greatness by sharing their wisdom and being catalysts for the betterment of society whether as priests or dedicated Catholic laymen.

Towards the end of the ceremony after the bestowal of various awards,  Father Fonti introduced Joseph Krug, Patrice Legoute and Stephen Jankowski to their new Rector, Father George Sears. All three of them have decided to continue discerning a call to the priesthood at Cathedral Seminary House of Formation in Douglaston.

Bishop Nicolas DiMarzio concluded the evening by praising the continued success of Cathedral Prep in producing a quality education in an environment where discernment is encouraged and fostered.
