St. Pius X Preparatory Seminary
Two Schools One Mission
St. Pius X Preparatory Alumni Association and Cathedral Prep Alumni Association have joined forces to promote vocations, academic excellence, and alumni affairs.
Alumni who attended St. Pius X Preparatory Seminary from it’s opening in 1961 to it’s closing in 1984 are encouraged to register with the Cathedral Alumni Association for information and updates on alumni happenings.
John Ryan, Pius ’75, a member of the Cathedral Prep Board of Trustees, stated “I encourage Pius alumni to join the Cathedral Prep Alumni Association family, given the common education and formation experience shared by Pius and Cathedral alumni,” while noting that the Cathedral Prep Alumni Association can assist in facilitating future reunion events to perpetuate the memory of St Pius X Prep.
St Pius X Alumni News
At the alumni gathering in 2009 which featured what was designated the final liturgy to be celebrated at the St. Pius X campus chapel, the main celebrant, Bishop William Murphy, suggested a commemorative plaque recalling the legacy of St. Pius X Preparatory Seminary be erected in a diocesan facility. Frank McQuade (Pius ’72) led efforts to follow up with the bishop’s offer on this project, and Frank was delighted to report that in 2017 a commemorative plaque with memorabilia recalling the school will be displayed by the entrance of the Priest Alumni Hall of the seminary building at Immaculate Conception Seminary in Lloyd Harbor. The date of the formal unveiling and commemoration will be announced in 2017. In the spirit of Fratres in Unum, the Cathedral Prep Alumni Association is assisting in the coordination and preparation of this event, for which the St. Pius alumni are grateful.
In conjunction with the commemoration at the Immaculate Conception Seminary, and to further incorporate the St. Pius alumni into the Cathedral Prep family, alumni plan to jointly work on a project in 2017 to dedicate space at Cathedral Prep to the history of St. Pius X, similar to the class- room/hall space dedicated to Brooklyn Cathedral Prep. Alumni will work to design the display and gather memorabilia. In addition to remember- ing the school, plans are underway to celebrate Pius alumni by inviting them to participate in the annual Immaculata Dinner, where Pius alumni and former faculty may be honored. We look forward to advancing these efforts in 2017.
