The JV Basketball Team had a great season, with several signature victories. The team was led by point guard and team co-captain by Sophomore Chris Mahon - Chris led the team in assists and deflections and was the team leader on the court. Junior Brian Hickey led the team in points, averaging over 8 per game and in defensive rebounds. Jose Velazquez led the team in rebounds and provided a strong inside presence. Rounding out the starters were Freshman Thomas Moore, who was second in scoring and led the team in charges drawn, and Sophomore Lenny Lynaugh, whose aggressive defense and moves to the hoop contributed to the team's success. Sophomore Anthony Santagata contributed 100+ points and rebounds, while co-captain Sophomore Danny Goncalves provided tough defense, point guard play and leadership. Freshman Rich Marino contributed aggressive play and streaky 3 point shooting. Freshmen Mike Bode, Antonio Pazmino, Evan Sepulveda, Arthur Vollmerhausen and Ben Bercarcel rounded out the squad.
The JV victory against Samuel J. Tilden High School was probably the most exciting game of the year. It was a back and forth contest, with the Cathedral JV pulling away at the end behind Chris Mahon’s 18 points. The JV won a game in the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials (IAABO) Tournament against St. Mary’s behind Thomas Moore’s 19 points. The league play started slowly, but the JV team got hot in the end. They won three of their last four. Included in this was a win over St. Edmund's behind Lenny Lynaugh’s three point shooting and defense, shutting out St. Edmund’s best player in the second half! The JV lost a tough play-off game to La Salle despite 17 points and 13 rebounds by Brian Hickey.
Coaches Crimi and Stark would like to thank the players for a great season and are looking forward to next season !
